Bought ATHAD500X along with Philips SHP9500S so this review is a comparison for those that might be trying to decide between the same sets. I m not an audiophile yet , but wanted headphones that approached that level. I want them to be realistic. I compared listening to selections from REM Automatic for the People, Anniversay edition, Bill Evans at Village Vanguard, and Little Feat - Waiting for Columbus. All via Apple Music through an Onkyo A-9010 integrated amp headphone jack , and direct from iPad. No EQ. From a sound standpoint, the AT had more clarity and presence. It was especially noticeable on the well recorded live albums. Closed my eyes and felt like I was there. Every little background noise was there and easy to locate. The Philips was nice, but didn t give me the sense I was there. Some may say that realism detail could become tiresome over time. I don t think so. Drum sounds are good too. These are not bass heavy. I would say they re pretty base accurate. I preferred the more traditional look, and separate cord jack on the Philips. It was very comfortable. The AT had much less outside sound bleed than the Philips for some reason. The AT is extremely comfortable, almost to the point of being disconcerting initially. You don t feel it at the top of your head at all and I m bald . The ear cups are very large and completely cover my ears - no pressure. Initially I thought they might slide down, but so far, they stay put. I really prefer these open ear cups to the closed type. Now I m curious to know what 5-10X the price would get me. I can t image there s that much more room for improvement.Read full 1,402 ratings for Audio-Technica ATH-AD700X Audiophile Open-Air Headphones at Amazon Reviews
